about

“I cannot guess what we'll discover when we turn the dirt with our palms cupped like shovels...” - Benjamin Gibbard

Six years ago in a small room in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, I began a four-song project with composer Gray Sutherland. Neither of us knew exactly how it would evolve, nor how it would change our lives, but it did. Within just a few weeks, we had a live string quartet, percussionist Janelle Burdell, and the financial backing to produce a full-length record. It was at Treelady Studios where Dave Hidek engineered what became Just Another Sad Song, my first studio album.

Over 400 shows later, I found myself on the west coast, where the disc fell into the hands of engineer Doug Heffernan of Guest Room Studios. With polish and a new perspective, the magic of these songs was born again in that tiny room in Los Angeles, California. Just like the words of Ben Gibbard of Death Cab for Cutie, this beautiful journey continues as we present to you Mariposa Record Group's debut release, my self-titled album, completely and utterly transformed.

If there's one thing I have never been, it's alone. Blessed with so many phenomenal friendships, I feel so lucky to have each and every person in my life. A million people made this record possible.

First and foremost, a huge thank you to all the musicians that directly contributed to this project as well as the many friends and fans that contributed financially. This dream would still be just a dream without you.

Thanks to Steve, Terry and Michael Clark for your unconditional love, Joy Young for your imparted wisdom, Gray Sutherland for your musical genius, Doug Heffernan for your endless patience, Molly Rae for your angelic kindness, Monique Roy for your invaluable input, Erin Dawes for your tenacious manifestation, Kyle Smith for your thoughtful consultation, Catherine Hayashi for your never-ending friendship, Alan Hayashi for your uplifting graciousness, Randy Wiley for your undeniable wit, Whitney Joy for your overflowing devotion, Becky Curry for your humbling perseverance, Heather Heilman for your beautiful adventurousness, Tara McKenzie for your discerning eye, Tom Goss for your virtuous guidance and Joe Benson and Rex Rodriguez for your heartfelt inclusion.

For all of you who knew me way back when and everyone who is a recent addition to my journey, thank you for coming to my shows, for buying this album, for sharing part of yourself with me as I share myself with you. We are all in this together.

Love and light to you,
Jeremiah Clark

Track Name: United States Dividing
red & blue & white, it seems we can't make up our mind again this time
whatever we decide, I wonder, “Will it cost our lives again this time?”
a freedom we can't feel for all the people who keep saying that they're trying
sure weighs heavily on families of ones who lie at the front lines dying

when will they have enough of someone's else blood?
to protect securities, they lie and say, "It's for our country."

everyone wants to tell us what we should & shouldn't do,
but they don't wanna do anything about United States dividing
tell me whatever happened to that little golden rule
that worked long before the fools had their say
& they're the only ones denying something's gotta change

rich & poor & broke, it seems that money gets to vote for us these days
ninety-nine percent is wondering, “Will ever end for us these days?”
another freedom we can't feel for all the people who keep saying that they're trying
is the reason why we're still sending so many kids to bed empty & crying

when will they have enough of someone's else blood?
to protect securities, they lie and say, "It's for our country."

everyone wants to tell us what we should & shouldn't do,
but they don't wanna do anything about United States dividing
tell me whatever happened to that little golden rule
that worked long before the fools had their say
& they're the only ones denying something's gotta change
something's gotta change

the next time you place your hand over your heart
think about exactly where you are

everyone wants to tell us what we should & shouldn't do,
but they don't wanna do anything about United States dividing
tell me whatever happened to that little golden rule
that worked so long before the fools had their say
& they're the only ones denying something's gotta change
something's gotta change; something's gotta change

Track Name: Make-Believing
the only time you say it is when we’re too intoxicated
& the only time you need me is when I’m close to leaving
the only time I feel love is when we’re trying not to give up
& the only time we’re happy is when time is quickly passing

who knew that love could stop without us knowing of it?
what do we do when pain is all that we’ve got going for us?

& I want to pretend that there’s starting again
& I know there’s no such thing as make-believing

the only thing I needed was to try to fit the pieces
but the only thing you gave me was less than what could save me
the only thing I dreamed of was someone returning my love
but the only thing I got back was you saying “I don’t want that.”

who knew we’d fall apart without us seeing?
what do I do when pain is all that I’ve got going for me?

& I want to pretend that there’s starting again
& I know there’s no such thing as make-believe

all this time I told myself there must be something wrong with me
now I know that it’s not my fault, & I have been set free

& I want to pretend that there’s starting again
& I know there’s no such thing as make-believe

& I want to pretend that it never ends
& I know there’s no such thing as make-believing

Track Name: The Storm Song
so this is the quiet before the storm
but I won’t be afraid
‘cause I have seen it a thousand times before
& I know just what to say

go away! I don’t have the strength
to deal with difficult times today
I just want to think about the love that I have made

so now that the storm has finally passed
the sun is coming through the clouds
it’s drowning out all the darkness cast
& drying up the grounds
& I just want to think about the love that I have made

go away! I don’t have the strength
to deal with difficult times today
I just want to think about the love that I have made
I just want to think about the love that I have made
I just want to think about the love that I have made
